EVS made a strategic investment in TinkerList, and acquired MOG Technologies, aiming to link pre-production workflows to live production, and enhance file-based ingest and transcoding.

EVS TinkerList

EVS has made a strategic investment in TinkerList, a Belgian software developer working in the live broadcast industry. Tinkerlist develops rundown creation and broadcast automation tools as a cloud-based application called Cuez for live studio shows, news and sports.

Journalists can use Cuez to upload video directly to a broadcaster’s rundown in real-time, making it instantly accessible to everyone involved in the day’s broadcast, whether their colleagues are working in the studio, at an office or remotely. Cuez unifies scripts, rundowns, assets, content and technical notes into a single platform. The software is cloud-based, and users integrate and synchronise all devices with the rundown via an open API.

Considering that pre-production workflows are now more closely linked to live productions, TinkerList aims to close the gap between the writer's room and the technical broadcast environment. Cuez simplifies operations across the production chain, resulting in consistency from the time a production is planned to post-production and archive. Meanwhile, dynamic changes are also supported to cope with live conditions.

Optimising the Production Team

Regarding EVS’ investment, CEO of TinkerList Erik Hauters said, "We are happy to have the means and the support of EVS to achieve our vision and allow us to further extend the scope of our application to increase its relevance across a wider set of productions, while maintaining the same level of simplicity in usage. The strengthened partnership will help us to expand globally, thanks to EVS's direct and indirect worldwide footprint. Moreover, this investment from a solid broadcast leader demonstrates the sustainability of our company."

Seeing value in Tinkerlist’s ability to optimise the user experience, CEO of EVS Serge Van Herck said, "We are very proud to become a shareholder in such a promising and innovative company that re-invents the way to produce live content. EVS now owns an significant minority stake in Tinkerlist, allowing the team to remain independent and autonomous while supporting their growth and ambitions."

TinkerList's SaaS products will be integrated into EVS's asset management and control room systems, broadening the scope of EVS's products. EVS believes that Cuez is not only suitable for live productions, but also for media productions in general. With this investment, EVS expects to indirectly encourage the growth of media production beyond the broadcast market segment, further supporting innovation and entrepreneurship in the industry.

Strategic Acquisition of MOG to Develop Mediaception Workflows

EVS has announced the acquisition of MOG Technologies, based in Portugal, a strategic move that enhances EVS's portfolio with file-based and software-defined video systems. Through this acquisition, EVS can immediately expand the file-based ingest and transcoding capabilities of its live production systems.

MOG Technologies' expertise aligns with EVS's Balanced Computing strategy – balanced between hardware, software, cloud and on-premises resources – particularly enhancing its content management and distribution systems, respectively MediaCeption and MediaHub. The strengthening of EVS’s cloud-based services also aligns with current expectations in the market, especially in live and near-live production.

Moreover, with a new team of close to 50 colleagues based in Porto, the acquisition grants EVS access to a pool of highly skilled staff, bringing knowledge of digital media and video technology beyond traditional broadcasting.

The acquisition has the potential to broaden and better integrate EVS products and services to facilitate media workflows from ingest to distribution. EVS will also be using the new pool of knowledge and expertise to grow their R&D efforts and improve customer support and professional services to ensure implementation and optimal use of the combined product portfolio.

From Products to Live Production Ecosystem

"The integration of MOG Technologies is a logical step in EVS’s on-going work to move beyond products to developing comprehensive solutions and forming a live production ecosystem in which all live stories are produced, managed and distributed in a unified way," said Serge Van Herck.

"The product range of MOG Technologies not only complements EVS's existing portfolio, but will also help to quickly integrate software-defined ingest capabilities and introduce new transcoding features, both on-prem or in the cloud. This approach is meant to serve the evolving needs of our customers."

Luis Miguel Sampaio, CEO of MOG Technologies, commented, “Joining forces with EVS is a significant step for MOG Technologies. Our combined expertise will enable us to make valuable solutions to the media and broadcast industry that carry them into the future. We are excited about the opportunities this acquisition brings and look forward to contributing to EVS’s success.” evs.com
