Post-production studio Tint in Sweden works between its two facilities in Gothenburg and Stockholm, handling commercials, feature films and serialized TV content. Despite a private network, the need to transfer files manually between the two cities began causing delays and version control issues, especially for VFX artists in Stockholm facing bottlenecks. To overcome these challenges, Tint looked for a more efficient transfer workflow.

Seeking in particular a robust system with proven performance and a competitive price, they chose EditShare EFS NVMe storage nodes and multiple EFS 300 units, and have combined them to set up direct access to shared content for both locations.

A high-performance storage system, it was completed in June with regional partner Danmon Group Sweden. It improves collaboration among Tint’s teams of colourists, VFX artists, editors, sound designers and producers, and supports efficient, smooth operations by avoiding video playback issues caused by network congestion or oversubscription.

Two EFS 300 nodes have been installed at each location and are integrated with ultra-high-speed NVMe nodes for greater performance, a configuration that supports quick media sharing and responsive collaboration across sites. Overall, it delivers the speed and throughput required for multi-layered, high-bitrate film and VFX work.

"Our primary goal was to create a single frictionless, collaborative working environment for both our Gothenburg and Stockholm teams," said Albin Abrahamsson, Post Supervisor, of Tint. "EditShare's EFS storage has completely changed how we work, preventing file transfer delays, removing admin worries and allowing our teams to focus purely on the creative process. The NVMe performance is especially beneficial for our VFX and colour grading workflows."

By adding NVMe to the EFS cluster, a multi-tiered system is created. Users can migrate projects back and forth between EFS NVMe and HDD nodes in order to meet specific demands, but still managing the cost..

Tint's CTO, Vincent Larsson said, "We evaluated multiple vendors, as well as the option of building our own system, but EditShare stood out for its performance, features and price. It's reassuring to have high-speed media-aware storage that is both reliable and flexible enough to meet our evolving needs."

Tint has also taken advantage of EditShare's open API framework, writing their own scripts integrated with Apple Shortcuts. This means producers can quickly create their own media spaces and add folders and users to new projects, without requiring access to the core EFS system. "Our producers can now manage new projects and media spaces themselves, saving everyone time and getting new projects up and running straight away," Albin said.

Because security is critical in media, EditShare's EFS auditing capabilities play an important role for Tint by tracking activity in real time and monitoring every user action, visualised through an integrated real-time dashboard. This gives everyone confidence when handling valuable content.

"This is an example of a modern post-production environments taking a tiered approach to their storage nodes, and achieving greater efficiency and further creative options," said Sean Bradley, RSM for Northern Europe, EditShare. www.editshare.com
