Arcitecta’s updates for Mediaflux Livewire solve large-scale data transmission challenges over slow, undependable network connections for moving data to the right place at the right time.

Arcitecta's Mediaflux Livewire transfers massive data volumes at speed, across unreliable, low-bandwidth network connections around the globe.

Mediaflux Livewire, from data management software developer Arcitecta, includes new updates to help users transmit massive volumes of data over low-bandwidth, unreliable network connections. Using Mediaflux Livewire, files can be transferred securely at high speed, supporting people who need to collaborate and focus on the value of data, not data management, such as teams involved in media & entertainment, research, life sciences, higher education and other sectors.

Jason Lohrey, Founder and CEO of Arcitecta said, “High speed data transmission is a crucial component of modern data management and storage fabrics to enable a global mesh of managed data. High-performance transmission applications should make it straightforward for people and systems to move data to the right place at the right time, for sharing with colleagues or transmitting elsewhere for analysis.

“The enhancements to Mediaflux Livewire address challenges at both ends of the spectrum – from the slowest, most intractable networks to the highest-performance networks, managing all data as part of an end-to-end management system.”

Livewire and Mediaflux

Mediaflux Livewire is file transfer software that uses metadata to optimise data movement via parallel data transfers across latent networks, and prevent redundant file transfers. Livewire was initially designed for high-latency, high-performance network environments and wide-area networks (WAN) with latencies exceeding 200 milliseconds.

Livewire is integrated within Mediaflux distributed data management for structured or unstructured data, combining metadata curation and business rules. It largely hinges on metadata, not only to find specific data – users can add metadata, carry out statistical analysis and reporting for metadata, data and system usage, and transcode and interchange metadata and data to and from other formats.

For local access and disaster recovery, users can automatically distribute data to multiple systems, and have Livewire to optimise transmission and storage of data across networks and mixed storage.

The new Mediaflux Livewire enhancements now solve the problem of transmitting large amounts of data over very low-bandwidth and unreliable network connections. With the new capabilities, organisations with smaller networks, especially relative to the size of data they need to transmit, can keep large amounts of data synchronised between sites and transmit data in both directions, regardless of low network bandwidth and reliability issues.

Monitoring and Control – Livewire Updates

Operators can use the new enhancements to monitor and control transmissions more easily. For instance, Livewire can be used to limit network traffic between sites and increase performance over low-bandwidth connections. By creating a visual representation of which files are at each site, Livewire allows changes to be identified and transmitted without having to ask whether those files are in synchrony. Livewire keeps this visual image indefinitely and at all locations.

Livewire can also automatically tune the compression of files, or portion of a file, with adaptive compression that dynamically decreases the amount of data transmitted according to conditions. No manual administration is required – the system performs automatically without manual configuration. This approach accelerates data transmission over low-bandwidth network connections and monitors the usefulness and savings of compression across the system.

When connections fail on high-latency networks, Livewire retransmits packets without impacting throughput, even with 100GE or higher speed networks. Livewire supports streamed data sources, such as incoming network data pipes, and traditional file-based data sources, and takes the best advantage of network throughput, even in unreliable network environments.

Livewire includes various ways to monitor network performance and transmissions with a new 3D worldview of sites, ping times and network traffic to clearly see point-to-point flows, the aggregate bandwidth, and whether network connectivity issues are occurring. In real-time, users can visualize the layout, flow rates and network health for data endpoints at determined geographical locations.

Using parallel TCP/IP protocols to minimise network administration overhead, Livewire can be deployed as a stand-alone application to directly replace other network transmission tools. With these enhancements, the system can scale from the smallest and most unreliable networks to networks of hundreds of gigabits to terabits per second.
