Broadpeak’s new EdgePeak video and data cache software engine supports the development of high-performance CDNs to enable secure, cost-efficient video streaming to larger audiences.
At NAB 2025, Broadpeak introduced EdgePeak, a video and data cache software engine designed to support the development of high-performance content delivery networks (CDNs). Aimed at operators and content providers, EdgePeak enables video streaming to larger audiences while addressing cost efficiency and content protection. Specifically, EdgePeak allows developers working on CDN, caching and edge computing applications to access Broadpeak’s streaming software through open APIs. This facilitates the creation of scalable, secure video delivery services.
As global streaming traffic increases, network operators and content providers require efficient methods for handling growing volumes of video data across both owned and third-party platforms. EdgePeak supports organisations building their own CDNs by integrating streaming optimisation and built-in security features within a core platform for video application deployment, while achieving performance above 1Tbps.
The software is engineered for efficient throughput and reduced power consumption when run on standard hardware, improving cost-per-Gbps and lowering environmental impact. It is interoperable with existing CDNs and includes load balancing functions to optimise current infrastructure without additional hardware.
Security features include real-time protection against DDoS attacks and unauthorised streaming. The cache software identifies and responds to threats such as SYN flood attacks, token sharing, heavy hitter patterns, content scraping and illegal distribution. Again, these functions reduce the need for separate appliances for security, and contribute to operational efficiency.
EdgePeak supports flexible deployment across physical and virtualised environments, enhancing hardware resource usage. It is designed for custom edge computing use cases, supporting real-time code injection with minimal CPU usage. Compatibility with C and C++ allows for integration of custom features and applications, avoiding reliance on proprietary languages.
Nivedita Nouvel, Vice President of Products and Solutions Marketing at Broadpeak, stated that large-scale operators and streaming services are seeking efficient infrastructure solutions to manage increasing live traffic.
