Appear's VX Media Gateway, modular software for secure, scalable media transport, integrates with on-premise, cloud and hybrid infrastructures as part of the broader Appear VX Platform.
At NAB Show 2025, Appear presented its VX Media Gateway, a software-based system for secure, scalable media transport. Designed to integrate with on-premise, cloud and hybrid infrastructures, the VX Media Gateway forms part of Appear’s broader VX Platform.
The VX Media Gateway combines hardware processing capabilities with software flexibility. It has been designed to address the requirements of modern IP-based and cloud-enabled workflows, while maintaining compatibility with existing infrastructure.
The software includes built-in mechanisms for stream resilience, such as healing, AB failover and alarm handling. It supports hybrid workflows by enabling media movement between on-site data centres, cloud environments and distributed production setups. Network usage is optimised through efficient bandwidth management and routing, supporting performance and cost efficiency.
Licensing options include subscription-based operational expenditure and perpetual capital expenditure models. The platform is modular, with support for future additions such as transcoding, NDI, JPEG XS, ST 2110 and emerging cloud-native formats.
VX can be deployed as a standalone solution or alongside Appear’s X Platform, bridging traditional systems and cloud-based environments. It is based on a modular, API-first architecture built for adaptability and expansion.
VX is intended to support long-term infrastructure evolution. As media workflows increasingly shift towards software-defined processes, the VX Media Gateway aims to support transport, processing and distribution in changing production landscapes.
Appear’s CEO Thomas Bostrøm Jørgensen noted that the VX Platform addresses the growing complexity that broadcasters face when managing hybrid workflows.
