Ligue De Football Professionnel Media chose Bitmovin Player for their mobile app, reducing development time and ensuring uninterrupted playback on the widest range of devices.
The Ligue De Football Professionnel (LFP) Media, the commercial arm of the French football league, develops a direct-to-consumer (DTC) mobile app, the Ligue 1 Pass, to distribute the League’s video content. Working to a tight deadline, the LFP Media team was aware that launching the app would require setting up a fast, reliable, high-performance player, which led to the integration and deployment of the Bitmovin Player.
As they looked for a suitable player, LFP Media’s main concerns were speeding up time to market, reducing development time and ensuring uninterrupted playback on the widest range of devices. On the Ligue 1 Pass, users can watch all nine games of every match round plus replays. They can access a library of VOD content, including original programs on Ligue 1 history and players, exclusive interviews, complete match archives and season highlights.
Relatively simple to deploy, the Bitmovin Player soon became their top choice. A key differentiator for LFP Media was the player’s support for React Native, the open-source UI software framework developed by Meta Platforms.
Using React Native with the Bitmovin Player meant LFP Media would have cross-platform compatibility with single code bases for iOS and Android, a feature that shortens mobile development times and delivers a consistent experience across devices. Furthermore, the Bitmovin Player has a customisable UI that LFP Media could use to align with their required brand aesthetics and integrate with its existing video workflows.
"We were working to a tight timeline to launch our app, and we needed a high-performance, reliable player that could scale with our needs and be deployed at speed," said Gregory Rota, Tech Director at LFP Media, "The Bitmovin Player’s support for React Native has been invaluable for us as it kept development time to a minimum and increased our ability to support more devices. Also, Bitmovin itself has been a reliable, innovative, trustworthy technology partner."
The Bitmovin Player, through its modular architecture, low latency features, configurable ABR and Stream Lab, can stream consistently while maintaining playback quality on any screen. Stream Lab tests streams on physical devices including Smart TVs. With a set of dedicated SDKs, it supports device compatibility across Web, Android, iOS, Roku and major smart TVs, so that users can have the same immersive viewing experience irrespective of the device they use.
Based on an API approach, Bitmovin's Player comes with several features that can be selected and adjusted to workflow needs with an API. As well as the UI, these range from ABR specifications, choice of DRM and subtitle and caption design, to creating playlists for gap-free transitions between streams. www.bitmovin.com
