Cinegy, a software-defined television developer, and high-performance storage and M&E workflow specialist Scale Logic joined at NAB 2025 to show the results of the strategic partnership they launched six months ago, dedicated to asset management and storage

Since the initial announcement at IBC2024, the two companies have continued to collaborate and can now make systems and services available to broadcasters and media companies who need to modernize their operations while reducing technical overhead and infrastructure costs.

Architecting Data Storage Environments

Through this partnership, Scale Logic customises turnkey solutions for media organizations throughout North America. The comprehensive systems combine Cinegy Archive and Cinegy Desktop software with Scale Logic's ZX Storage platform, SFS Media Archive, migration tools and CaraOne AI-powered Metadata Enrichment capabilities.

ZX Storage gives the user options to architect data storage environments with iSCSI, FC and NFS, or SMB (CIFS) client protocols, and supports various cluster topologies. The emphasis is on reliability and integrity, to protect and recover data efficiently. Scale Logic’s SF-Archive consolidates all storage types – near-line, disk, tape, optical, on-prem, hybrid cloud – into one repository, priced according to type, not the amount of content. SF-Migrate can be used to migrate assets automatically without disrupting workflows.

Without relying on manual metadata tagging, CaraOne understands content contextually through automatic analysis, and detects emotions, cinematic attributes, actions and speech patterns in 170 languages.

Metadata for Searchable, Reusable Media

With a scalable, open architecture, Cinegy Archive handles logging and metadata accumulation over the assets’ entire lifecycle of the media, making them searchable and reusable. Cinegy Desktop’s local and remote real-time collaboration tools allow loggers, story and video editors to work on video material in real-time even during ingest. Clips can be searched, browsed, selected and even edited from anywhere.

Cinegy software is completely database driven. No data is stored on client systems. ingested from tape or file, or transferred from existing editing systems or shared storage. The media is stored in a centralized repository within Cinegy Archive, accessible directly through the Cinegy Desktop client, in real time.

Cinegy Desktop can be installed on users’ desktops within a network environment, running on standard IT infrastructure, and allows users to collaborate from their desktops. Its suite of tools for logging and editing include the ability to import and export media to a range of third-party non-linear editing and automation systems.

Unified Approach to Media

Through all of these capabilities, the ultimate goal of Cinegy’s and Scale Logic’s partnership is a unified approach to media management, storage and workflow optimisation that addresses the full lifecycle of media assets. Among its advantages are direct integration for speed and efficiency, lower upfront costs, AI-assisted metadata and scalable infrastructure. Users also have localised support and consultation services.

"After six months of close collaboration since our IBC announcement, we can demonstrate the tangible value our partnership creates for broadcasters and media organizations," said Bob Herzan, President of Scale Logic. "Our engineering teams have worked successfully toward compatibility between Scale Logic's server and storage platforms and Cinegy's innovative software. The result delivers real performance, scalability and cost-effectiveness." www.cinegy.com
