Avid NEXIS software-defined storage now has enhanced optimisation for real-time production workflows with better performance, scalability and availability for mixed audio/video teams.
Avid NEXIS software-defined storage now has enhanced optimisation for real-time media production workflows. Avid NEXIS for collaborative shared environments targets post-production facilities, dubbing studios and multi-room studios that run multiple Avid Pro Tools workstations. NEXIS is available in a range of storage engines that operate both on-premises and in the cloud.
Avid NEXIS F2 SSD
Integrated within Avid Media Composer and Pro Tools, the Avid NEXIS F2 SSD achieves high performance, scalability and real-time media delivery to track and mix sound-for-picture and other high track count, immersive audio projects. Made for demanding, large-scale audio and video workflows, the NEXIS F2 SSD engine and other SSD-based NEXIS systems are now performance verified to support up to 8,000 tracks per drive across hundreds of connected Pro Tools workstations.
The connected machines can be accessing audio clips, session files, video sequences and other media simultaneously, while reaching up to 6x faster performance for audio punch-in. Punching in allows the user to record section by section, recording new material within a previously recorded track without recording the rest of the track again.
These NEXIS F2 SSD updates apply to systems running Avid NEXIS | VFS software version 2023.12 or later.
Avid NEXIS F-series and PRO+ Engines
For smaller-scale projects, production teams can deploy the Avid NEXIS F-series and PRO+ engines. With Avid NEXIS | VFS software 2023.12 or later, they also achieve verified multi-user performance for Pro Tools audio workflows, now running up up to twice as fast for audio punch-in, with 20% faster save times for Pro Tools sessions. The NEXIS F-series supports up to 175 million files and 500 voices per media pack, and the NEXIS | PRO+ supports up to 5 million files and 500 voices per media pack.
In any of the NEXIS configurations, duplicating or moving files around is not necessary. Media can be centrally stored, giving fast, secure simultaneous access to all authorised team members.
Avid Chief Product Officer Tim Claman said, “Post facilities need to find ways to increase efficiency, removing friction from their workflows while managing increasing complexity projects. With the new enhancements to NEXIS software, both audio-only facilities and mixed audio/video environments, can support fluid content sharing without compromising performance.” www.avid.com
