Notre Dame Studios uses Cinegy Capture PRO for fast turnaround of sports highlights and studio recording, ingesting multiple channels of video with varied transcoding features.

Notre Dame Studios is the multimedia technology and production resource for the University of Notre Dame campus community. The Studios’ team recently looked for a software-based content recording application, with functionality to meet a variety of studio production workflows.

Having browser-based GUIs securely controlling the ingest of multiple record channels, while enabling the editing of content by users for live sports and studio production, were mandatory. Fast turnaround of both sports highlights and studio recording was also critical for Notre Dame Studios.

Cinegy Capture PRO, which is designed for exactly these requirements, was deployed to serve as an affordable platform to capture studio and sports content, ingesting multiple channels of video. Supporting content up to 8K, it includes features and functionality for transcoding while simultaneously writing multiple formats to multiple storage locations. Each Capture PRO server scales to support a high density of channels, processing high quality and proxy recordings, monitoring feeds and live transport streams, ultimately giving the production environment many more options.

Similar to Cinegy’s other tools, Capture PRO is entirely implemented in software, runs on COTS hardware and can be accessed from any location, to view, edit and deliver the media. At Notre Dame Studios, Cinegy Capture PRO was installed on two servers, tested and placed into the production environment in less than four hours.

One or multiple instances of Cinegy Capture PRO can be installed as a self-starting service on a server or PC, and configured to work with existing video hardware or IP streams. Once started, each instance becomes available to the network and accessible through the control application. The number of instances of Cinegy Capture PRO that can run per machine is only limited by processor performance and available space for SDI cards.

Web control, with a scalable web streaming panel, comes as part of the Cinegy Capture PRO software. It supports simultaneous control of multiple Cinegy Capture engines, with real-time, broadcast-quality previews of all streams from any OS on all mobile devices, via the local network or standard Internet connection.

Operators can build a straightforward workspace, suited to their particular job. Having web control built into the application means users have the advantages of remote working without compromising performance or functionality. “Reliably capturing all content feeds is vital,” said Scott Rinehart, Sr. Director Broadcast and Streaming Technology, University of Notre Dame. "Cinegy showed us that Capture PRO is the software tool we needed to integrate into our workflows.”

Daniella Weigner, Managing Director of Cinegy, also noted that Capture PRO makes a great fit into college sports broadcast workflows. “We are honoured to have the University of Notre Dame using Capture PRO and are very proud of this deployment,” she said. www.cinegy.com
