MNC Media & Entertainment, a major integrated media group in Southeast Asia, has been investing in premium sports and entertainment content for its video streaming platform, VISION+. Keen to protect their recent acquisitions in live sports, including matches of Indonesia’s national football team, and other high value investments, VISION+ is implementing anti-piracy strategies.

A fast-growing streaming service, VISION+ now features about 35,000 hours of entertainment including original content, live sports, micro series, movies and long-form series, and a range of premium local and international channels. Launched five years ago, it currently serves about 3.7 million subscribers nationwide.

The platform’s content is delivered through a mix of Video-On-Demand (VOD) and live TV channels with catch-up features, serving diverse audiences. Viewers can watch exclusive Indonesian drama series and TV shows from MNC Media & Entertainment Free-To-Air channels RCTI, MNCTV, GTV and iNews. A variety of original content titles under the brand VISION+ Originals are getting their first run on the platform. More recently, exclusive original micro-series titles are making their way to VISION+ spanning all genres in both horizontal and vertical formats.

As a major hub for live sports, VISION+ holds exclusive rights to football tournaments and features a soccer programming line-up extending to the Asian Cup 2027, UEFA Champions League, Europa League, LaLiga, Bundesliga, FA Cup, Copa Del Ray and Euro 2028. Subscribers can also gain access to premier motorsports such as F1, MotoGP, Formula E and WorldSBK, and other top-tier events like FIBA (Basketball), ATP (Tennis), and Sea Games 2025.

Watermarking and Monitoring

In short, regarding anti-piracy measures, VISION+ has a considerable inventory to protect. According to Asia Video Industry Association's (AVIA) Coalition Against Piracy (CAP), piracy consumption across Asia Pacific is rising due to the growth of piracy on social media and messaging platforms. Consequently, MNC Media & Entertainment and anti-piracy provider Friend MTS are now partnering to develop and implement strategies and services, centred on FMTS' watermarking and monitoring solutions.

This collaboration is the first of its kind in Indonesia to address illegal content redistribution and persistent streaming piracy.

Through Friend MTS's watermarking, VISION+ can detect illegal streams in real-time, which is critical in live environments where events may only last a short time. This focus on speed and accuracy is also a crucial aspect of FMTS' monitoring and detection services, which work alongside watermarking to effectively disrupt illegal streaming networks and platforms locally and internationally.

Locating and Identifying Piracy

FMTS Subscriber Watermarking identifies the specific subscriptions that are being used as piracy sources to illegally re-stream content. From there, services can revoke access and switch off content. FMTS watermarking can be deployed quickly, usually without further infrastructure, and extracts watermark information and identifies accounts in a few seconds.

FMTS' Monitoring services are scalable, AI-driven, automated systems running 24/7. Adaptive intelligence capabilities locate and identify piracy, and support smart monitoring that collects and processes information in real-time. The monitoring systems use proprietary video tracing techniques to find the underlying infrastructure used to deliver the infringing video streams. The resulting metadata also gives insights into the relationship between different network entities.

Clarissa Tanoesoedibjo, Deputy CEO of MNC VISION+ said, "To continuously improve and deliver high-quality viewing experiences for our subscribers, a secure, reliable streaming platform is essential to protect our content investments in live sports and originals. As a leading player in Indonesian broadcast and media, VISION+'s partnership with Friend MTS is a notable feature in our efforts to combat piracy. We hope to send a clear message to rights holders and our viewers that our stance against anti-piracy remains strong."

Shane McCarthy, CEO, Friend MTS, said, "Indonesia is one of the fastest-growing video streaming markets, but also one of the hardest hit by piracy. MNC's commitment to tackling piracy is a significant milestone not just for Indonesia but the entire Asia-Pacific region." www.friendmts.com
