Silhouette 2022 now integrates the Boris plugins Sapphire, Mocha Pro and Particle Illusion. OpenColorIO v2 with GPU-rendering and upgraded ACES support improve Color Management.
Recognised as one of the best rotoscoping and paint tools over the past 15 years, Boris FX Silhouette has now been updated with major features for compositing. In total, Silhouette 2022 comprises over 400 nodes including the Boris plugins Sapphire, Mocha Pro and Particle Illusion, integrated with Silhouette into a single package.
Frequently used on feature film shots, Silhouette has recently contributed to Dune, Spiderman: No Way Home, Free Guy, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and The Mandalorian. It has also been recognised with Academy and Emmy technical awards and is a member of the Netflix Production Technology Alliance.
Silhouette 2022can be purchased as a standalone application, and as a plugin for host applications including Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Foundry Nuke, Blackmagic Fusion, Resolve and Autodesk Flame.
New Nodes and Compositing Effects
The planar motion tracking tools in Mocha Pro, which have also won Academy Awards, add modules to Silhouette that focus on organic PowerMesh tracking, object removal and image stabilisation. New data ports bridge native Silhouette nodes to the included Mocha Pro node to enhance tracking and spline connections.
Sapphire, a visual effects collection of over 270 effect nodes, thousands of presets and classic lighting effects, lens flares and glows – now gives Silhouette users further options with creative image processing filters for VFX.
Particle Illusion creates realistic particle animations with 3D emitters, fluid dynamics and a massive preset library. These can be used to add such environmental elements as dust, smoke, fire and explosions. Curated graphics using particles, such as HUDs and sci-fi elements, are also available.
Various effects taken from Boris Continuum have been integrated, including image processing filters like Magic Sharp to fix blurry footage, Beauty Studio for skin retouching, and six dynamic blur filters optimised with fast GPU processing. Other familiar effects are Light Leaks, Video Glitch and Film Glow.
A new node in Silhouette called InPaint removes objects and creates clean plates without needing to paint manually, thereby saving time. It assists with quick wire removal, beauty work and so on. The PowerMesh Warp node introduces a reverse warp stabilised workflow to Silhouette’s paint and roto tools via the Mocha Pro data port. PowerMesh Warp helps apply detailed painting to warped surfaces like skin or cloth.
OpenColorIO v2 with GPU-rendering and upgraded ACES support improve Color Management. General tracking and roto improvements include a new surface tool to position and refine planar track inserts, node actions for sharing track and shape data between nodes, and the DOD (Domain of Definition) node with track cropping for better render performance. Due to optimised native Apple M1 support, Silhouette can achieve faster speeds as well.
Silhouette 2022 is available now as an annual or monthly subscription, permanent license, or upgrade with support for macOS, Windows and Linux operating systems. borisfx.com
