Evertz Joins SRT Alliance to Ensure Low Latency Video Streaming

Evertz has joined the SRT Alliance, the open-source initiative dedicated to overcoming the challenges of low-latency video streaming. The company’s affiliation with SRT Alliance comes at a critical time when demand for remote work solutions that require low latency, reliable and secure technology to deliver video has risen as many customers are obliged to transform their homes into makeshift office spaces.

Evertz has taken this opportunity to help customers avoid obstacles to their workflows and implemented the recognised, widely accepted open source SRT protocol. As a result, SRT is now included with their existing compression products. It has also been offered as a bulk and single instance SRT processing unit to both on-premises and cloud-based workflows.

Furthermore, Evertz has developed a comprehensive video delivery system based on SRT delivery protocol that streams video from origination to user desktops or mobile players by making use of the customer’s own cloud server to reproduce one stream to many clients.

The SRT Alliance, founded by Haivision in April 2017, already has more than 350 members. Its mission is to overcome the challenges of low-latency live streaming by supporting the collaborative development of SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) Open Source streaming project. SRT is freely available as an open source video transport protocol and technology stack originally developed and pioneered by Haivision that enables the delivery of high-quality and secure, low-latency video across the public internet.

Jatinder Barmi, Compression Systems product manager for Evertz said, “As an SRT Alliance member, Evertz is committed to the collective mission of developing the open source video transport protocol that delivers secure, high quality, low-latency streaming across unmanaged networks, including public Internet.”

“As one of the leading manufacturers of broadcast equipment and services for live production, we’re delighted that Evertz has joined the SRT Alliance. With the adoption of the SRT protocol, Evertz is well placed to supply customers with low-latency and secure streaming workflows to help them transition to remote and cloud-based production,” said Jesús (Suso) Carrillo, Director SRT Alliance, Haivision.   evertz.com
