Broadpeak launched a video delivery system for new services based on Broadpeak’s BkS350 Origin Packager software running on Google Cloud, bringing operators’ workflows up to date.
Broadpeak has launched an updated video delivery system using Google Cloud, simplifying the deployment of new streaming services for network operators. Based on Broadpeak’s BkS350 Origin Packager software running on Google Cloud, operators can bring their workflows up to date, overcome capacity and storage limitations of on-premises infrastructure, and expand their live, time-shifted and VOD streaming services. Broadpeak’s new system has now been adopted and successfully deployed by a tier-one network operator in North America.
Kip Schauer, global head of media and entertainment for Google Cloud, said, “Partnering with Broadpeak helps expand the adoption of public cloud for broadcast video applications like cloud DVR. Integrating Broadpeak’s origin packager software on Google Cloud gives operators the opportunity to tap into the resources they need to modernise video architecture and speed up their time-to-market for new streaming services.”
The new video delivery Broadpeak has developed with Google Cloud increases storage capacity for operators, and makes the deployment of cloud DVR services simpler. Broadpeak’s BkS350 software packages and encrypts live and VOD streaming content in common ABR formats, including HLS and mpeg-DASH, and records them for non-linear use cases such as time-shifting, start over, catch-up and cloud DVR.
Google Cloud has object-based management capabilities that operators can use to improve data analytics, scalability and data retrieval, and optimise resources to save costs when storing VOD and time-shifted TV content.
Broadpeak uses Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), a service that implements Kubernetes API, which gives access to Kubernetes functionality through a RESTful (representational state transfer) interface and keeps track of the state of Broadpeak’s application cluster. Through GKE, Broadpeak also takes advantage of Google’s autoscaling, release channels to keep their services up to date, and Multi-Cluster support.
With autoscaling, users’ resources are dynamically adjusted to meet demand without intervention from operators, simplifying resource management that often needs intense manual effort. With GKE’s Multi-Cluster support, users can build Kubernetes applications that span multiple application clusters.
GKE integrates the network and storage modules, which is critical for handling intensive video streaming workloads. Furthermore, Broadpeak uses the Google Cloud Router architecture to set up direct multi-site connectivity and redundancy.
“Google Cloud enables the simplest and fastest deployment of Broadpeak’s origin software and is a powerful enabler for expanding video streaming services,” said Jacques Le Mancq, CEO at Broadpeak. “With Broadpeak’s continuous delivery approach to making software enhancements and leveraging the strength of the Google Cloud infrastructure, operators now have a flexible and scalable system for video streaming on any device.” broadpeak.tv
