Amagi and Nevion have formed a combined system to launch and tear-down pop-up channels in the cloud for use in low-latency hybrid workflows with their ground production.
Amagi has announced a partnership with Nevion aiming to give broadcasters more flexibility in creating and delivering live content to viewers, faster and at lower cost. Their focus is on high value, high-quality, time-limited events, especially sports. Production teams, wherever they are located, will be using the combined system to launch and tear-down pop-up channels in the cloud and use them in direct combination with their ground production — overcoming the latency issues typically associated with such hybrid workflows.
Amagi develops cloud-based SaaS systems for broadcast and connected TV (CTV). Nevion is a Sony Group company and developer of virtualised media production systems. Their partnership brings together the cloud-based master control room (MCR) functionality of Amagi CLOUDPORT and the network orchestration capabilities of Nevion VideoIPath. The goal is make it simpler for production teams to integrate cloud-based MCR capabilities into ground-based production workflows, without relying on technical specialists.
By putting the production team in control of hybrid workflows, this approach optimizes the ground/cloud operation for efficiency, and can significantly reduce costs.
VideoIPath is a key component of Sony’s Networked Live workflow, where it is concerned with the network and broadcast control, real-time video/audio transport and hybrid processing on-premises and in the cloud. Amagi CLOUDPORT manages and delivers content via automated playout channels – broadcast or OTT channels over IP or satellite, and FAST OTT platforms. Users deliver content, graphics, captions and metadata over multiple streaming formats, up to UHD resolution.
Amagi CLOUDPORT's new support for VSF TR-07 (JPEG XS over TS) enables high-quality, ultra-low latency video transportation between the ground and the cloud, as if both operations were in the same truck or facility – this speed is essential for high quality live production and a favourable end-viewer experience. The integration with VideoIPath further simplifies the workflow – including connectivity – for production and master control operators, who can now synchronize on-screen graphics, digital video effects and commercial breaks with minimal retraining effort.
“This combined capability, which has already been deployed at a major US broadcaster, marks a significant milestone in the industry's evolution, showcasing how our technology empowers broadcasters to achieve unparalleled efficiency and agility,” said Jan Helgesen, Head of Product and Solutions at Nevion. “With Amagi CLOUDPORT and Nevion’s VideoIPath, customers looking to create hybrid cloud workflows can achieve spin-up, spin-down automation, enabling a single producer to manage production control on premise plus master control and ad insertion via a browser.” www.amagi.com
