TVN LIVE PRODUCTION’s new live production unit, built for UHD, HDR and immersive audio projects, includes a fleet of Leader and PHABRIX waveform monitors
TVN LIVE PRODUCTION, live broadcast production provider in Germany, has recently completed a new mobile unit for outside broadcast, the TVN-OB8. The van is now ready for UHD, HDR and immersive audio projects.
The new truck joins TVN’s large European fleet, which now comprises 11 OB vans and 13 SNG units. Each one has been designed with an emphasis on achieving maximum output, at the highest production quality possible, regardless of the vehicle’s footprint. This goal has called for equipping the units with capable, versatile production systems.
At the same time, ensuring a high level of quality has meant continuously undertaking a range of key signal quality measurements, in order to monitor the vehicles’ output.

“At the beginning of the UHD era, we were looking for measuring devices that could recognize the new standard and display it properly,” said TVN LIVE PRODUCTION CTO Christoph Moll. “We chose Leader and PHABRIX systems due to their configurability and the flexibility they allow us. TVN’s live production units are deployed at a large number of live production events including festivals and UEFA tournaments such as the Champions League, where Leader/PHABRIX products have proven indispensable.”
The need for flexible testing and measurement was the main factor behind the purchase of seven Leader LV5600 Waveform Monitors to use in TVN-OB8. As well as compatible with SDI and IP signals, the chosen devices had to be capable of measuring IP streams, 12G/3G/HD SDI, HDR/SDR colour space and audio.
Working with integration partner LOGIC media solutions, TVN reviewed the available options and, as well as the LV5600 monitors, also purchased two PHABRIX QxP Portable Waveform Monitors. These models are 25G ST 2110 and 12G-SDI capable and will be used to undertake measurements outside the truck.

Along with the units’ reliability, TVN mentioned general ease of use, clear signal display and variable measurement options among the advantages of working with the Leader and PHABRIX devices. They also value the ability to access firmware upgrades for new features.
“TVN’s latest truck, TVN-OB8, has been receiving considerable attention for its innovation and ability to support the full range of high-resolution, immersive production requirements,” Martin Mulligan, COO of Leader Electronics of Europe, commented. “Our long association with the company is a badge of honour for us. The fact that our T&M systems are again integral to the specification of this truck confirms that we are continuing to develop what TVN needs to support its clients in sport, music and TV.” leaderphabrix.com
