b<>com's *Sublima*, an AI-driven SDR-HDR converter, has been chosen by Vantiva, a specialist in video, broadband and networking systems for the home, to enhance its new series of set-top boxes (STB). The aim is to deliver an augmented audiovisual experience for users.

Vantiva develops two different STBs. Jade was built to address consumers’ interest in 4K UHD streaming, online gaming and smart home devices, combined with viewers' expectation of high-quality video delivered instantly. Ruby includes an Over-The-Top (OTT) receiver that supports 4K UHD 2160p/60 and HDR TV services. Both are equipped with a local neural processing unit (NPU).

By integrating the *Sublima* AI-powered SDR-HDR converter, Vantiva's set-top boxes produce very high quality images with native support for HDR-compatible televisions. This development enables real-time optimisation of contrast and colour, with optimized performance due to the NPU integration.

Workflows with *Sublima*

While this integration operates at the consumer end, *Sublima* can be integrated at any point in the video workflow, and is compatible with multiple platforms – field-programmable gateways (FPGUs), CPUs and NPUs. Because its functionality is largely automated and doesn’t rely on parameters or specialized expertise, deployment is quick, and processing latency is low.

*Sublima’s* conversions do not require users to preserve extra data within their workflow, and work with any HDR format – PQ, HLG or Slog3. Its ability to perform a ‘perfect roundtrip’ means it can support mixed SDR/HDR workflows – SDR-HDR conversion of SDR content into an HDR format, HDR-SDR conversion to produce a backwards compatible SDR signal from HDR content, and HDR-HDR conversion between different HDR formats.

Changing the Broadcast Industry

"This collaboration brings together Vantiva's expertise in set-top box manufacturing with b<>com's AI technology, allowing us to expand our Vantiva Home AI software suite and deliver an enhanced viewing experience for customers," said Vincent Guitard, Product Director for Set-Top Boxes at Vantiva.

Emmanuelle Garnaud-Gamache, CEO of b<>com, said, "Seeing our solution rolled out on a large scale in Vantiva's set-top boxes is an achievement and a testament to our expertise, showing the transformative potential of AI in video technology for the home entertainment industry."

The first Vantiva set-top box featuring *Sublima* was unveiled at IBC in Amsterdam last September. The full rollout of *Sublima* is planned for early 2025. With this world premiere, b<>com reinforces its position as a pioneering services and technology provider that makes a real impact. b-com.com
