SmartFM is the first patented AI model that enables FM broadcasters to reduce their energy costs by up to 40% without compromising audio quality and coverage. The AI behind SmartFM comprises a statistical approach for content breakdown and classification creating a library of audio content classified by signal characteristics and impact on the acoustic experience, a probabilistic approach in the implementation of content detection, and a deterministic approach in the automation of RF management. The optimized power consumption of SmartFM results in reduced cooling, electricity savings, reduced maintenance and longer transmitter lifespan.

Brief Summary: SmartFM – a new paradigm in energy savings for FM broadcastSmartFM is the first and only worldwide patented AI technology that enables FM broadcasters to reduce their energy consumption by up to 40%. SmartFM is engineered to lower energy costs by up to 40%, and reduce CO2 emissions by up to 40%.Detailed Summary: SmartFMSmartFM is the first and only worldwide patented AI technology that enables FM broadcasters to reduce their energy costs by up to 40% without any compromise on the audio quality and coverage.

Energy savings, to reduce operating costs as well as to meet the market’s growing need to implement greener solutions, is increasingly a top priority across industries - and has always been one of our core missions We have seen huge advancements in transmitter design and performance take place over the past few decades. However much of this progress was achieved thanks to LDMOS technology which has now reached its maximum potential for improving transmitter efficiency.

That is why our teams launched on a 3-year mission of intensive R&D and field testing to develop a new, industry-leading AI innovation that transforms how to broadcast FM radio. The development of the Artificial Intelligence behind SmartFM is made up of three phases: Phase 1: a statistical approach for content breakdown and classification (this phase corresponds to the retrieval and analysis of large numbers of data – “our big data”). It is this phase which enabled us to create a library of audio content classified by their signal characteristics as well as by their impact on the acoustic experience,Phase 2: a probabilistic approach in the implementation of content detection,Phase 3: a deterministic approach in the automation of RF management.”The result - SmartFM, a sophisticated algorithm that delivers industry-leading efficiency and performance.

The optimized power consumption of SmartFM cascades into multiple benefits such as reduced cooling, electricity savings, reduced maintenance, and a longer transmitter lifespan. In parallel, by reducing their energy consumption, broadcasters also reduce their CO2 emissions with a greener broadcast solution; contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable planet. So how much can broadcasters save using SmartFM? As an example, for a network of 10 FM transmitters at 10kW output power, net savings can reach an average of 500 000 Euros within 10 years. Broadcasters in this same scenario will also offset their carbon footprint by 30% or 5000 tons of CO2. SmartFM is available on new WorldCast Systems’ FM devices as well as the thousands of Ecreso FM transmitters already deployed worldwide through a simple and FREE software upgrade.
